After the celebration of the first, second and third International Congress on Safety in Ports, the Covid-19 pandemic made it impossible to organize the fourth congress in 2020.

We want to hold this fourth Congress in memory of all the victims of the pandemic.

The fifth Congress will seek answers to some of the many concerns that have arisen in recent years in the maritime port sector, also in the field of industrial safety. In a global scenario marked by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, by climate change, by the evolution of energy and maritime transport costs, and in a VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous) scenario in the energy and commodities markets as a result of the war in Ukraine, ports have had to evolve from intermodality nodes in the transport of goods to incorporate their function as energy generation and distribution nodes, play a leading role in the decarbonisation of logistics chains, face new challenges of security as a result of the digital transformation and achieve high levels of coordination between the maritime and land sectors to prevent and adequately respond to the emergencies that have and will take place in our ports.

It is essential to maintain a high level of safety in port facilities and harbors. The prevention principle application in safety requires the establishment of collaboration links with industry administrations and coordination between maritime, port and civil protection administrations. And these frameworks of understanding require the organization of drills, training sessions and conferences to share and learn.
